Educate Yourself

Tutorials

Listen to my soothing voice as I walk you through What dyslexia is, what causes it, and what the effects are.

Understanding Dyslexia is just the first tutorial in the series. You can find a wealth of information in these in a relatively short amount of time.

This is actually called Families and Schools Partnering for Children's Literacy Success and there are 2 pathways - one for families and one for educators.

Maybe this will be good? I'm about to find out - over the next several months because it's like 12 hours long!

Podcasts

Audio documentaries and other stories from Emily Hanford. These are really eye-opening.

I'm linking this, particularly, to Trauma and Reading with Dr. Steven Dykstra. I think it's important to remind ourselves that not teaching children to read is traumatic. Repeatedly denying students access to the accommodations they need is TRAUMATIC. I haven't listened to all of Melissa & Lori's podcasts, but I like what they are dishing up.

Some really great information here, but may get a bit technical.

With a Caveat!

I have not read the second edition. And I couldn't get through the first edition until I found it in audio.

You can read the review from someone on Amazon that will explain the reason for the caveat.

If you REALLY want to dig into how reading should be taught.
